The Importance of EHR System Training
Once you select an EHR system, you are well on your way to beginning the implementation process. But before everybody in your practice can take advantage, there is something you must consider: training.
Just the same as any new tool, training is a big part of the successful use of an EHR system. Missing the mark in regards to training will only slow you down in the future.
The proper approach to training should be implemented throughout the roll out process. This can include but is not limited to a “go live” test and pilot test.
Execution is Key
The primary goal of training is to ensure that everybody using the system is able to execute at a high level. This includes the following:
- Privacy and security risk management.
- Chart abstraction and data migration.
Your approach to training may not be the same as the next practice, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just make sure you spend enough time focused on the three areas above.
Who is in Charge?
Some people will catch on quicker than others. Some will continue to lag behind until they finally “get it.” Here is what you need to do: find at least one person who is comfortable training others. This person knows the ins and outs of the system, and has the ability to answer any questions that come their way.
Note: in a perfect world, you will have multiple trainers, as this takes the burden off of one person.
EHR system training is a must. With the right strategy, everybody who needs to use the system will feel comfortable doing so. And that is what matters most.
